It is best to run any Appchkr as the *only* application running on its host machine, whether on MSWindows or on a Linux distribution. Doing so will insure that no other app will accidentally force a shutdown or reboot of the host that will stop the checking unknowingly, without notice, leaving you with no checking running, but unaware of it. The Appchkrs are lightweight apps so can run on practically any set of hardware to make this possible.
If this is not possible then using the heartbeat at a high frequency (e.g. every hour) may help to provide relatively prompt awareness of an unplanned shutdown of an Appchkr, at the cost of more email clutter.
